The old house in the backyard of a Houston apartment complex is a place you could use to hide a gun or hide explosives.
But in this case, the owner of the house told NBC News he’s now in a better position to help the neighborhood.
According to a Houston police report, an apartment complex employee found the remains of the family home on Feb. 18.
A neighbor, who lived in the house at the time, saw the remains and called 911.
When officers arrived, they found the body of a man who had been shot.
The man was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police say the man had a handgun, a pellet gun and two knives in his possession.
Investigators also found several magazines and knives in the home.
